Warm up winter and indulge in this delightful Triple Berry Cinnamon Wreath. The bright, tangy berries, cinnamon and spice twisted into the soft warm bread is a simple recipe that will be the delight of any dreary winter day.
This is one of the few recipes that I wanted to photograph more than once. Twisted braids of golden bread, gooey cinnamon and bright fresh berries, the results are photogenic to say the least. Actually, the last time I photographed this recipe it was for my Food Photography Masterclass, on sale here. <---- However, I loved it so much, I wanted to photograph it again and share the recipe here!
This year, I'm spending my winter in Oregon. It's my home state; land of endless rain, the Ducks and the occasional web footed human. For those who don't know, Oregon is the epitome of raw; a state with vast forests, volcanic mountains, huge cliffs and coffee shops without wifi.
I'm on the coast where the weather, the environment and the locals all seem to tip-toe together out onto that ledge of insanity. All kidding aside, it has been nearly 15 years since I've spent any quality time here. So for this trip I'm staying in a nice little cottage just up the street from the beach. It's a cute little house with a small, but well organized kitchen, and just enough space for my portable food photography studio.
This week I was very happy to get out of the kitchen and on to one of my favorite hikes in the area at Drift Creek Falls. It's a short hike through the dense coastal forest that ends at(my favorite part) a spectacular 250ft long suspension bridge that runs adjacent to the Drift Creek Waterfall. Like a scene out of Indiana Jones, you can peer through the cracks of the wobbly planks of wood and see nothing but the raging waterfall, rocks and giant trees below. The Oregon landscape is stunning, something I definitely took for granted while growing up.
I have to be careful because as much as I would love to hike my entire trip away, I'm really here to get reacquainted with all the flavors of northwest food, hone my skills in this little kitchen by the sea and get to work in my portable photography studio.
Triple Berry Cinnamon Wreath
This triple berry cinnamon wreath is the first recipe to come out of my little cottage kitchen on the Oregon coast, and it's a good one! Soft, warm bread smothered in cinnamon and braided around fresh, sweet and tangy strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. It is sort of cinnamon rolls meets berry tart and the aroma will make your house smell delicious all day.
I finished the treat off with an ample sprinkle of thin almond slices and a dusting of powdered sugar, but it would be magical with a nice rum and cream cheese glaze as well. Get the recipe below and if you make it let me know what you think in the comment section.
Ps: Check out the video tutorial on how I shot this recipe and more in my Food Photography Masterclass which is 20% off until the end of February!
